Тамильское значение:Arabian jasmine, Jasminum sambac; some other varieties of jasmine
Малаялам:mulla
Малаяльское значение:Jasminum sambac, etc.
Каннада:molle
Каннада значение:Jasminum multiflorum or pubescens
Комментарии:Irregular -u- in Tamil/Mal. (the Kannada variant is primary, as it is confirmed by Telugu). This might be due to contamination with *muḷ- 'thorn' (?) or *muḷ- 'sprout, shoot, germ' (?).
It is unclear if Kan., Tulu mōṇṭu have to be traced to a separate root *mōṇṭ-; if so, Tamil forms like moṭṭai, moṇṇai should probably be considered as descended from roots with weak clusters. Cf. also the following forms: Ta. moṇṭu refractoriness, unruliness, annoyance, worry; moṇṭi, moṇṭukkāran_ refractory man; Kannada moṇḍu, moṇḍutana stupid obstinacy, esp. in demanding or dunning. These forms are joined by B&E with *mur- 'rough, rude', but this is hardly possible.
Номер по DED:5114
Праюжно-дравидийский:*mos-

Тамильский:moy
Тамильское значение:to crowd, press, throng, swarm, spread as an eruption, crowd round, swarm round, cover, enclose; n. press, throng, swarm, crowd, closeness, tightness, battle, war
Тамильские производные:moyppu crowd, multitude; moci (-v-, -nt-) to swarm

Каннада производные:musur_ to cover as flies, crows, etc., crowd together, cover, hide; n. cover, veil; musumbu cover, veil
Комментарии:Tamil muṭṭai, Mal. muṭṭa due to contamination with muttai 'lump' (at least, this is a far more probable explanation than setting up an extraordinary umlaut case before a voiceless consonant). Tamil muṇṭai unclear.
Тамильское значение:to roar, thunder, make loud noise, be noised abroad, be made public
Тамильские производные:muẓakku (muẓakki-) to sound, beat a sounding instrument; n. sound, noise; muẓakkam loud noise, as of thunder or drums, clamour, roar; muẓavu, muẓā drum, large loud-sounding drum; moẓi (-v-, -nt-) to say, speak; n. word, saying, language

Каннада:moẓagu
Каннада значение:to sound as certain musical instruments, roar, thunder, play certain instruments; n. sound of certain musical instruments, roaring, thunder
Комментарии:The forms with -ō- have to be considered regular here. The forms with -ū- are due to contamination with *mūḍ- 'to cover', although the contamination had probably begun on the PDR level itself.
Тамильские производные:(?) māntu (mānti-) to eat, drink, experience, enjoy
Малаялам:mōkuka, (?) mōntuka
Малаяльское значение:to drink, sip
Малаяльские производные:mōyikka to give to sip; mōval a gulp
Комментарии:The root here is *mōg-, as evidenced by Tamil moci < *mōg-i-, and confirmed by external data. Therefore, Malayalam forms like mōyikka should be explained as due to a reinterpretation of the form mōkuka as *mō+k+uka. However, Mal. mōntuka, Tam. māntuka hardly belong here at all.
